 Yiwu’s individual and private economy has maintained steady and rapid growth this year. The foreign trade improved constantly with optimization in trade structure. According to Yiwu Administration for Industry&Commerce ,by the end of June, there had been in Yiwu 86,249 self—imployed industrial and commercial households, 243,277business practitioners and 2.872 billion yuan as registered capital. The number of ‘Yiwu businesspeople’ was over 240 thousand. In the first half of 2006 , the total value of individual and private industry reached 12.669 billion yuan and sales reached 16.344 yuan with social retail consumption of 2.687 billion yuan. In the first six months, the number of large scale enterprises increased to 721 compared with 603 at the beginning of last year. And over the period,11,162 more self—imployed industrial and commercial households and 519 more private enterprises were registered, a growth of 6.47% compared with the same period of last year. The number of investors among new private enterprises increased by 7.25% as against the same period of last year and the registered capital by 48.25%.
